I just finished reading "No Easy Day" by Mark Owen last week. Have any of you guys read it yet?
I was quite intrigued that an actual Navy SEAL would write a book about the bin Laden mission, and have first hand knowledge of the mission. I've always been sort of a military guru, so I couldn't pass this book up!
I don't want to ruin it for you, but he does give stories about himself growing up that shaped him to be the SEAL he was. He tells about past missions before that helped him learn important lessons, and that being the best sometimes can't beat plain on luck. He also described the Captain Phillips mission, where they saved him from Somali pirates off the coast of Africa, as he was part of that mission as well.
And of course, there is plenty of detail about all aspects of how the bin Laden mission went down. From the early stages of planning, the actual mission, and the aftermath and post mission work they had to do.
I would definitely recommend this book if you're curious about what actually went down during this mission. News reports and the press definitely had a field day with this one, but they were obviously doing a lot of guessing and didn't have anywhere near the facts as this SEAL does. Very interesting and quick read. It's a well written book by Owen and he even has a bunch of dry humor in it, which I thought was quite hilarious considering the topic we are talking about. Pick it up and get your read on!
