In this video, learn how to remove and replace the starter on a 7th gen Honda Civic EX manual tranny (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005). Not too bad of an install, but the lower bolt is a bit hard to get to. Make sure you have some swivel sockets and a bunch of extensions to break that one loose. In this video, learn how to remove and install a new axle/cv boot in your 7th gen Honda Civic EX manual tranny (2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005). This install isn’t too hard, so you can save yourself some money by doing this one yourself. There’s a couple ways to get to the axle, either you take the strut bolts out/brake caliper off or take the lower ball joint and tie rod end ball joint out. I elected for the strut bolt/caliper because I felt it’s an easier (and less tools) to get to the axle. If you’re changing the passenger axle, you’ll also need to drain and refill your tranny fluid. This install is actually pretty straight forward and not all that bad (hardest part is getting the tranny and motor to line up correctly). But it is a really big, pretty involved install that took me and a friend 14 hours to complete. I wouldn’t try this one unless you’re mechanically inclined, but if you are, it’s well worth the knowledge gained and amount of money saved! Quick cheat sheet I made to remember the order of removing parts:
Part 1 – while car is on the ground
Remove battery
Remove air box
Move all the wires that get in the way of the starter and that area
Remove 2 sensor plugs (reverse light and speed sensor)
Remove starter
Remove shift linkage
Remove slave cylinder hard line
Part 2 – After you put the car on jack stands
Drain tranny fluid
Take axles out
Remove motor mounts, rear mount first (and also front mount and tranny side mount)
Remove bottom tranny bolts (2 tranny bolts, 4 engine stiffener bolts, 1 more tranny bolt near the axle input area plus 2 flywheel cover bolts)
Remove other 4 bell housing bolts
Drop tranny
